چکیده

With the increasing emergence of new wireless systems and the explosive development of mobile internet applications, the demands on Radio Frequency spectrum have been constantly increasing, and therefore, the related demands for bandwidth, wireless communication technology is facing a potentially scarcity of radio spectrum resources. However, spectrum measurement campaigns have shown that the shortage of radio spectrum is due to inefficient usage and static spectrum allocation policies. Thus, to be able to meet the requirements of bandwidth and spectrum utilization, spectrum underlay access, one of the techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks, has been proposed as a frontier solution to deal with this problem. Nowadays, cognitive radio is one of the most promising paradigms in the arena of wireless radio communications, as it provides the proficient use of radio resources. In the Cognitive Radio networks, the Cognitive Radio (CR) can dynamically regulate its transmission parameters. Proper utilization of the radio spectrum can be performed by the scheme of dynamic spectrum accessing which is undoubtedly necessary. To regulate its Radio Frequency (RF) transmission properties, the CRs are required to sense the radio spectrum periodically for being aware of the licensed users. The enhancement of the spectrum efficiency can opportunistically be

Protocols for dynamic spectrum access in cognitive radio networks

Spectrum access protocols permit secondary users to transmit on frequency bands that are not being utilized by the primary owners. A cognitive radio that wishes to transmit in a band must first decide if the band is available (i.e., not being used by the owner) and then it must periodically re-evaluate the band’s availability once it begins transmitting in the band to ensure that a signal from ...

Centralized Integrated Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radios

Spectrum sensing is the challenge for cognitive radio design and implementation, which allows the secondary user to access the primary bands without interference with primary users. Cognitive radios should decide on the best spectrum band to meet the Quality of service requirements over all available spectrum bands. This paper investigates the integrated centralized spectrum sensing techniques ...

Improving Spectrum Sensing Performance by Exploiting Multiuser Diversity

In traditional wireless systems, spectrum or frequency is allocated to licensed users over a geographic area. Within these constraints, spectrum is considered a scarce resource due to static spectrum allocation. Recent empirical studies of radio spectrum usage have shown that licensed spectrum is typically highly underutilized (Broderson et al., 2004; McHenry, 2003). To recapture the so-called ...
